ABOUT ABOUT

This isn’t just another technology mixer and networking event ya’ll.  This is a serious talent show giving your favorite startup nerds a chance to demonstrate their creative sides.  Better at bootstrapping than tapdancing?  No biggie.  Can you sing as well as you code? Lead the band as awesome as you cowork? Juggle apples as expertly as you project manage? (She said apple).

Well here’s your chance to prove to the world that you are more than just a keyboard hustler.

But this showcase ain’t for everyone.  No, my friends, if you were popular enough to win your high school talent show, then don’t apply here.  This extravaganza is for technology peeps, startup freaks, and founder pounders only.  Man or woman, young or old, if you know the meaning of crapplet or digital doppelganger, if you know how to pronounce GUI and JPEG, or if you’ve ever found an easter egg at a middle school dance, then you will be one sick Geeks With Talent contestant.

How Do I Participate?  Complete the application form.  No wait, just send an email to [email protected] and put in the subject line, Geeks With Talent Application.  Or really, put whatever you want in the subject line.  Just be sure to identify yourself and give a clear explanation of the talent you’d like to showcase.

How Do I Watch?  Buy a ticket here:  skylightcoworking.ticketleap.com.  They’re $20 each and include a rip roarin’ good time.  You can also feel free to BYOB (C’mon, you know geeks are beer snobs) and BYOD if you feel the intense need to blog about your experience while you’re here.  Or code.  You can code too.

Then simply show up at 6:30 pm on Thursday February 28.  The show starts at 7 and will last for an hour or two.  You’ll have plenty of opportunities to network with your fellow technology professionals, founding entrepreneurs, and digital freelancers, so bring your biz cards or bump iPhones or whatever.  Be sure to bring your ticket.  This is a list only event.  Yeah, we just told you where to buy your ticket, but here it is again: skylightcoworking.ticketleap.com.

FAQs:
What can I win?
First prize is $100 Cash! There are also cool, geeky prizes for 2nd, 3rd, and honorable mentions.

Who judges?

Our three guest judges will be scoring each act based on entertainment, originality, and audience interaction.

Can I …?
Unique acts are awesome, so be creative! A few things to keep in mind: keep it legal, keep it safe, and keep it PG-13. (Limit your swearing and keep your privates private.)  Bring your kids? Well, it’s not recommended.

How long?
Your act should last at least 1 minute and be no more than 5 minutes. 3 minutes? Excellent!

How many people?
How many peeps you got?

How big is the stage?
What stage?  This is a gather-round event.  Unless, of course, one of you geeks has a stage you wanna lend us.

What about audio/visual/tech?
We have a bad ass speaker system with an iPod dock.  If you need visual technology, like because you want to showcase your latest hack, then bring your laptop.  But honestly, that’s boring.  This is a campfire style event.  Let’s get back to basics and display our real, true life talents.

How do I sign up?
To perform, submit information about your act to the contest organizers by emailing [email protected].

To attend the event (even if you’re applying to showcase your talent), buy your tickets at skylightcoworking.ticketleap.com.

A Few Rules:
1. All acts must be PG-13 friendly, safe, and legal.
2. Contestants must show respect to all attendees, staff and other performers.
3. The decisions of the judges and staff are final and are not subject to dispute.
4. Contestants or helpers who violate any of the rules are subject to disqualification.

Some folks have said they're heading out to one of the many awesome bars on Bridge Street immediately following this event to keep the party going!  Feel free to tag along :)
